If your gun control argument does not equally apply to the police, you don’t have a gun control argument. That the state and its appendages should be armed because they are somehow morally or ethically more responsible than the average citizen is a fallacy. A badge does not turn you into a god, nor are you magically bestowed with a superhuman moral compass– you are merely saddled with responsibilities and duties like any other job. Cops have been shown to be just as (if not more so, thanks to dogged efforts to weaken the Blue Wall Of Silence) corrupt, racist, violent and evil as any other person with a gun.
Arguments against high capacity magazines or cosmetic features for non-cops (Why do you need 30 rounds to go hunting? Are you going to shoot 30 deer?) should apply to cops as well (Why do cops need 30 round magazines? Are they going to need to shoot 30 people?) or they are empty arguments. This is the same class of logical disconnects that produce people who advocate for gun bans but stridently support clandestine assassinations and drone strikes.
